About

Hello L.A.

Everyone in L.A. County deserves access to reliable news about our home. We deserve the knowledge and tools to hold powerful people accountable. We deserve a full picture of life in Los Angeles.

Our mission is clear. We do journalism that interrogates systems of power while supporting those trying to build a better Los Angeles.

Journalism for a humane & healthy LA

Our reporting will work in the service of a county where:

  • Housing is fair and affordable.
  • Public transportation is accessible and reliable.
  • Systems of justice and public safety are restorative.
  • Health care is available long before the moment of crisis.
  • Our air and water are free from pollutants.

We need accessible information that helps us understand the complicated web of public agencies and power brokers who wield tremendous authority over our everyday lives. We need to celebrate and learn from the accomplishments of our neighbors who move us all forward.

Los Angeles is the most populous county in the United States. Three-quarters of its residents are people of color, and 55% speak a language other than English at home. But legacy media has long erased most of us, and treated the consequential decisions that affect us like a spectator sport.

We deserve better. We can do better.

We can’t build a newsroom for L.A. without your help.
